Graceful Threads is a home-based business committed to providing families with custom made clothing at a reasonable cost. We have been in business since 2007 and have enjoyed getting to personally know many of our long term clients over the years.  We are honored to make what we could call slow clothing in a true artisan fashion.  Garments are hand cut and sewn based on your desired size and choice of fabric.  Our services include simple alterations that tailor a garment especially for you.  Our garments include simple, classic and contemporary designs which have been drawn from a variety of historic and modern sources.  No two garments will be exactly alike and we hope that you will enjoy your one of a kind pieces.

We have over 500 fabrics for you to choose from, all sourced from US owned fabric companies.  Whenever possible we choose from within these companies for fabrics that are made with cotton grown here on our continent.  We are also stocking linen blends and as many organic fabrics as we can.  Take a look around the various fabric choice pages and you will find old fashioned calicos, bold fun prints and all the staples like denim, chambray, corduroy, twill and all sorts of whites.  Don't be afraid to mix and match with coordinating colors for unique, one of a kind outfits.  We carry only high quality fabrics and welcome your suggestions for new fabric combinations.  Our garments are carefully sewn and edges are finished. Turnaround time is six weeks but we often are able to ship sooner than that and rush orders are easily arranged for a reasonable cost.  Our poly/cotton Tropical Breeze by the yard ships out weekly, usually on Saturdays.  The simplest way to order is to use our secure shopping cart where you can order via Paypal or credit card.  You can even order by check through the cart.

We do not pre-wash our fabric. Please allow for approximately 1 inch shrinkage per yard on our 100% cotton fabrics.  Please measure carefully and let us know if you have questions after looking at the size charts.  Almost all disappointments can be avoided by ordering the right size.  See below for more information on policies and returns.

We recommend washing our cottons in cool or warm water.  Delicate cycle is recommended by the manufacturers but in our house, they are usually washed on regular cycle.  Hang to dry or tumble dry low.  We do not recommend hanging any of our clothing in direct, harsh sunlight.  Quilting cottons and yarn dyed cottons may begin to fade.  Please see specific instructions for washing our Linen blends.

Orders can be placed online through our cart or by email and if we are available, by phone.  Email orders are payable by Paypal Invoice or check through the mail.  We welcome your questions anytime.  Please call the number below or for the quickest service, send an email using our contact form at the top of the page.  Messages and emails placed on weekends will be answered on Mondays.  For those who are calling, we are located in the Eastern Time Zone and accept business calls between 9am and 5pm.  Please kindly leave a message if we are not available.

We do ship to Canada and International destinations.  Please order through our cart.  International customers pay an estimated amount for shipping when an order is placed and it is our goal to have the amount paid cover what it will cost for 1st Class International shipping. You may later pay a bit more and have your order shipped by Priority Mail.  We will stay in communication to make sure your order is shipped as you prefer.  Please be aware that fabric is heavy and will cost more to ship than you pay when checking out.  You may also email your order and we will send you an invoice that can be paid through Paypal.

Turnaround Time:

Processing time for sewn custom orders is six weeks but we often ship sooner.  We ask you to plan on six weeks so that there aren't any misunderstandings.  Rush orders for 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks are available at the top of the page and should be processed when you place your order.  There is no need to ask in advance.  If we are unable to complete rush orders we will take them temporarily off the website.  After you have placed your order you may track its progress on our order updates page.  We've been doing this for some years and many customers have commented on how helpful it is for their planning.

Guarantee and Returns:
We want you to be pleased with your purchase and if this is your first time ordering from us, we would recommend purchasing only one of a specific design to make sure you like the fit/style before ordering more. Many of our regular customers find the styles that work best for them and their children and then stock up in different fabric choices.  Because our clothing is carefully custom-made specifically for you in your choice of size and fabric, we do not take returns. Please measure carefully before ordering, refer to our size charts and don't be shy about contacting us with questions.  Because each customer likes a certain fit with varying amounts of ease, we welcome communication if you are ever unsure about what size to order.  Most ladies items ask for a bust and waist measurement which is very helpful for us in tailoring your garment to your size.  Without this information we must simply make the size ordered without knowing how it will fit you.  When you check out, please give us an email address that you check regularly to make communication extra easy for both sides. If you need to return an item for alterations, please contact us so that we can discuss your needs.  In order to keep our prices low, there is a fee for the time spent doing alterations and we do ask the customer to pay for their return shipping.  We try very hard to satisfy our customers and will return your e-mail within 24 hours whenever possible.

Fabric orders are shipped weekly along with all the custom orders finished that week.  Shipping by Priority Mail through USPS will take 2-3 business days within the US and longer internationally.  International customers pay an approximate amount for 1st Class shipping when the order is placed and may upgrade to Priority Mail before an order ships.  Please be sure to give us an email address that you check regularly so that we can communicate easily.

We generally ship each Saturday and often once during the week if something needs to get out quickly.  We are not responsible for packages once they have left our hands and are in the USPS system.  Priority Mail does have tracking and you will receive an email with your tracking number the day that it ships.  If you would like additional insurance added (beyond $50) to cover your entire order, please just let us know and we can take care of that with you before shipping.  International orders can be shipped by First Class International (up to a certain weight which varies by country) or Priority Mail.  The former is less expensive but does not have the advantage of tracking or insurance.  If you are at all concerned about that, we would recommend paying a bit more and using Priority Mail.  The good news is that in thirteen years of business, we've only had one package go missing.  I like that track record!

Cancellations and Changes:

If you need to change something in an existing order you have just placed, please let us know immediately.  We completely understand that sometimes you will change your mind on a fabric choice or need help with sizing.  Once your order has been processed through the website and written down we plan the fabrics and let you know we have received your order.  Work has therefore begun and we do not cancel orders or refund items.  We are usually able to accommodate small changes as long as the garment has not yet been cut.  Just send us an e-mail and we will get back to you ASAP.  Thanks for your understanding.
